WUVA at 60 | Sixty Years of Memories, One Great Event!

Over 120 WUVA Alumni and friends, current students, staff and University leaders gathered on Saturday, October 20 for an amazing and wonderful celebration of 60 years of success for a truly unique organization.

Highlights of the formal program included an announcement by alumnus Ed Swindler, speaking on behalf of the station's Board of Directors, of the creation of the WUVA Fund for Media Studies, which will benefit the University's emerging Media Studies program while providing summer internships for Media Studies majors and minors at WUVA. Alumni may contribute to the fund, as part of the University's Capital Campaign. More details will be posted here shortly; in the interim, if you'd like more information, please contact WUVA's Alumni Relations coordinator and WUVA President, Katy Cannon.

WUVA alumnus Mike Moose also announced the initiation of the process to form a WUVA Alumni Interest Group, or "AIG", within the University of Virginia Alumni Assocation to further organize and energize the station's increasingly active alumni base. This group will help alumni keep in touch with the station and each other, and provide mentoring, internship and career placement opportunities for WUVA students as they move from working at the station during their years at UVa into the job marketplace. Mike will have additional information on the WUVA AIG, which we'll also post here as soon as available.

The "WUVA at 60" event was well attended, with alumni representing every decade of the station's existence in attendance. The evening's program, as well as historic documentary footage and audio from the station's archives, is being produced now and will shortly be available on DVD.

The disks will be available for $19.99 each as a fund-raiser for the station, to help equip a third studio and provide other material support for its operations. If you would like to reserve a copy, please e-mail the station and we'll let you know as soon as the disk is ready.

Check out our online photo gallery of all the day's events, from the open house at the WUVA studios to the evening dinner and program, to the alumni after-party, and remember to check in with us here at WUVA-FM.com regularly, as we'll be be posting a wealth of historic photos, narratives and other information we've received as part of the "WUVA at 60" event!
